About Us
The residential hall is one co-educational building for 1st - 8th grade students. The residential hall is in operation 24 hours - 6 days a week. Opening each Sunday at 2:00 pm and closing on Friday at 6:00 pm. At the beginning of the school year, the Residential Department will provide an orientation for students and parents:
Parents will be notified when changes occur due to holiday, no school / professional development days, or emergencies. Due to safety reasons, the doors are locked at 5:00 pm and unlocked at 6:00 am each day. A door bell is in place for all stakeholders to use after hours to access the residential building. The residential hall is also monitored by security cameras on a 24 hours basis.
1. Residential Personnel / Staff: Staff work schedule is from Sunday through Friday under a 24-hour tour of duty coverage and supervision for residential students.
- A. Home-living Assistants: Serve as surrogate parents to students to provide emotional support, overall guidance in providing a safe home-living environment where independent living skills are taught. Home-living assistant must have a minimum of 32 hours of Early Childhood and Elementary Education college courses-credit hours.
Three Night Attendant monitoring all students from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am including routine student bed checks, ensure student safety, hourly accountability for students, completing janitorial and laundry services.
- B. Residential Counselor: A professional licensed counselor is available to work with students and parents during nonacademic and academic hours. One Residential counselor, and one Traditional Counselors that will work with students on a daily basis.
- C. Residential Supervisor: Oversees the residential hall and is responsible for the overall successful functioning of all phases of the program.
- D. Additional support staff include a custodian.
2. Other services provided are Student Health Care; Computer Labs, Laundry Services, Tutorial Services after school / after supper 6pm to 7pm; Dine Language & Culture, Student Support Groups & Counseling Services.
3. The Residential Hall is designed with four wings as follows; The total capacity is 150 students.
- Wing 100 has a capacity of 40 female students; the grade level that occupies the wing are 1st - 4th grade students;
- Wing 200 has a capacity of 40 female students; the grade level that occupies the wing are 5th - 8th grade students;
- Wing 300 has a capacity of 34 male students; the grade level that occupies the wing are 5th - 8th grade students;
- Wing 400 has a capacity of 34 male students; the grade level that occupies the wing are 1st - 4th grade students.
4. Student Transportation: Parents are responsible for student transportation to and from the residential halls or to and from the designated bus stops. Residential has a Bus Schedule and Bus Ridership Rules and Regulations for student safety/ expectations.
Residential Bus Routes & Transportation will be provided to the following locations to drop off and pick up students:
- Southbound: Gallup - Rio West Mall, and return to Ch'ooshgai. Students come from Red Rock, Church Rock, Chil-Chi-Tah, Twin Buttes, Manuelito, and Houck; 36% of our current student enrollment ride the bus from these bus stop locations.
- Eastbound: Red Mesa Store, Twin Lakes Chapter House, Coyote Canyon Chapter House and return to Ch'ooshgai. 36% of our current student enrollment ride the bus from these bus stop locations;
- Westbound: Basha's, Ft. Defiance Conoco, Navajo, NM and return to Ch'ooshgai; Students come from Fort Defiance, Window Rock, Tse Bonito, Sawmill, Hunter's Point, Navajo, NM and Crystal NM.; 24% of our current student enrollment ride the bus from these bus stop locations.
- Northbound: Naschitti CRC Church, and Sheep Springs Store, and return to Ch'ooshgai. 8% of our current student enrollment ride the bus from these bus stop locations.
- Local Students: 19% of our current student enrollment is from the Tohatchi, and Mexican Springs area.
- Buses will stop only in designated stop areas at the designated times. There will be no exceptions to this policy. Buses / trailblazer will no longer make designated stops at student personal residence to pick up and drop off students.
- Student Activities include monthly STAR parties to Gallup, cookout's for students and parents, Dine Bingo, Reading & Math night, Fun walks, Intramural program, Talent Show, Christmas Program & Party, Halloween Dance & Party, Monthly Birthday parties, Valentines Party, Day trip to local sites, and week long Residential End of the Year Educational Field Trip.
5. Residential Calendar: A monthly residential calendar is given to all stakeholders at the end of each month with a bus schedule attached. Parents will be notified of schedule changes and for early release days through weekly announcements on the residential calendar.

Residential Bus Runs begin at:
5:15 pm to all designated bus stops.
Additional Information
What to bring to the dorm:
- 3 sets of clothes , that is fully marked with a permanent marker.
- Personal hygiene items: Body Wash, Shampoo, Lotion; etc.
What not to bring to the dorm:
- Electronics, cell phones, etc.
- Make-up, Hair spray, Weapons
- No Outside Snacks
- Towel, Pillow, Sheets, Light Blanket, Night Light
There will be bus runs on Friday's and Sunday's. Except on NO Bus Run Days.
- Be on time
- Buses are not to wait more than the time designated.
- Buses will stop only in designated stop areas.
